Be Wise
Perhaps you've heard the expression, "It's just the tip of the iceberg." We were snowmachining in what appeared to be a wide open plain at the foot of a glacier. Here and there we saw unusual formations jutting up from the landscape. It wasn't until we got close that I realized we were actually riding on a frozen lake in deep powder, and that the 'land formations' were the tips of icebergs. The tip is what we see, but often there is a mountain of ice just beneath the surface. Arctic sailors learned centuries ago that what you can see, though beautiful and appealing, is actually a warning. The real danger is what you can't see- the part that is hidden beneath the surface.
It is so easy for us to be lured into sin through alcohol, drugs, sex or even the lust for money. But those things are simply the tip of the iceberg. The problem with sin is that it always takes you farther than you wanted to go, keeps you longer than you wanted to stay, and costs you more than you wanted to pay. Many lives, families and marriages have been shipwrecked because people did not recognize the danger lurking beneath the surface.
God has given us a new identity. We are literally sons and daughters of the King. Ephesians 5:15 says, "Be very careful, then, how you live- not as unwise but as wise." Be wise, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
