Focus On Your Goal

It was a big river of unknown depth, literally rushing out of the foot of a glacier. The problem? I needed to cross. I walked to the widest spot in the river, tossed a stick out into the channel, and told my Chesapeake Bay Retriever ('Tucker') to "Fetch!" I wanted to see how far he could wade and how far he had to swim. The first spot was definitely no good, so I tried again and then again.

I slowly stepped into the channel with the current in the thigh-deep river pushing water well up over my waist. I had to lean into the current as I slowly placed one foot in front of the other- trying to find secure footing on the slippery rocks of the riverbed. The cold was shocking, but what surprised me was the intense pain in my feet that soon followed. And yet I couldn't hurry. I had to carefully place each step- battling all the while to stay upright.

There are times in life when hard things simply last, don't they? We can't rush through, we simply need to endure. At times the pain is so intense that we can't even ask God for strength for the day. We simply cry out for strength to get through this moment... and then the next... and then the next... Let me give you a word of encouragement- don't focus on the pain, focus on your goal. Keep your eyes on the prize. "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of God." Be blessed! -Pastor Brad
