Focus on Becoming More

One of the most powerful examples of right behavior in the face of our enemies was given by David before he became king. King Saul was trying to kill him- literally hunting him down with thousands of highly trained soldiers. David was not only a loyal and faithful soldier- he was married to Saul's daughter and was best friends with Saul's son. Though he had done nothing wrong, day after day, week after week, month after month, David and a small group of men were running for their lives. When David could easily have killed Saul (and had a good reason), he let him go. He said, "I will not lift my hand against my master, because he is the Lord's annointed." For the sake of God- for the glory of God- because of his close relationship with God- David chose to endure persecution without speaking negatively or acting with hostility toward the one unjustly trying to harm him. Friends, sooner or later we will all have someone slander us, we will all have someone lie about us, we will all have someone be unkind to us. Let's follow David's example. Let's simply endure it with humility for the glory of God. Let's not speak negatively about that other person. Let's not do anything to retaliate. Instead, let's focus on our own issues. Let's focus on becoming more holy, more mature, more humble. If we live this way, we will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
