Life's Unexpected Opportunities
Spontaneity is a great thing. Many of life's great moments are unplanned. In the same way, many great opportunities are missed by those who refuse to set aside their schedule and plans. The problem comes in when so many people, especially men, say, "I like to live spontaneously" as an excuse for a lack of commitment or irresponsible living. God tells us that a wise builder makes a plan and considers the cost before beginning.
Wise planning and follow-through greatly enhance your chances of success. Not only did Jesus make plans (he did everything the Father gave him to do), he also responded to a continuous stream of opportunities 'as he was going.' You see, he always remembered that people are more important than projects, that relationships are more important than timelines, and that a person's eternity is more important than keeping to a tight schedule.
All of Jesus's disciples embraced spontaneity. They left their careers, families and friends to follow him. Because of this, their lives were nothing short of continuous adventure. But get this- theirs were also lives of total focus and commitment. They had a plan and followed through! Stay focused, but learn to embrace life's unexpected opportunities, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
