God's Plans Are Always Better

Back when I was a school teacher, I was always looking for a way to support my family over the summer. I already had my private pilot's license, so I decided that I would get my commercial license and try to get a job flying for a fishing lodge during those long summer days. I was flying out of Merrill Field in Anchorage and was perhaps halfway through my training when Laura and I were offered a teacher 'job-share' in Kenny Lake, Alaska. Our son Michael was 5 months old, David was 8 months old, Sarah was 2 1/2 years old and Hunter had just turned 3.

I told the principal (who was a good friend) that we would take the job if we could live in the vacant home-ec classroom at the school. The six of us had a delightful year, but that one life change led to another and another. My plans changed. My priorities changed. I knew that God had called me to preach the gospel. I never flew again. And do you know what? I'm OK with that.

The Holy Spirit often alters our plans. I'm sure that some of the disciples planned to buy their own boats and spend their careers commercial fishing. Their plans changed. Their priorities changed. When the Apostle Paul met Jesus, not only did his plans end priorities change, but his whole life was dramatically changed.

Friends, it's a good thing when you are not so 'locked in' to your current lifestyle that you refuse to change. God's plans are always better, always an improvement- even when you love where you are at the time. Be open to a new adventure, to a new plan. Ask God if there's anything different- even RADICALLY different- that he would have you DO. Live this way, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
