Make Those Small Changes

I was out caribou hunting in the Alphabet Hills with one of my wrestlers. It was his first hunt. As I led the way down a very steep hill, I had an interesting experience. A rock was jutting up in the center of the trail about 3 or 4 inches... I thought. My small machine had 6 inches of clearance, so I paid little attention... until I was summersaulting over the top of my handle bars... feet high in the air... and landed on the trail on my back.

It must have been comical to an observer, because my wrestler was laughing as he rushed to see if I needed help. Some things simply shouldn't be ignored. Small obstacles, if not properly dealt with, can cause big problems. That rock was sticking out of the ground more than 6 inches. When my skid plate hit it, the machine stopped dead- sending me flying forward. Fortunately, all that I suffered on that day was a little embarrassment. It could have been much worse.

The truth is, many 'small things' in life can not only keep you from moving forward, they can change the course of your life. 'Legal' drug use (alcohol, marijuana, prescription) has been the gateway to more destroyed lives than perhaps any other single factor. Of course, for EVERY impacted life, at first it was just a 'small' thing. Small things like personal appearance and a 'refusal to go the extra mile' have stalled many careers... just SMALL things.

Think of those obstacles as hurdles in a race. A far less talented runner with NO hurdles will be waiting at the finish line while you're running to catch up. What small things- what habits or attitudes or behaviors- are hindering your progress? Surrender them. Make those small changes, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
