Be Trustworthy
A friend that I grew up with moved into our trailer in the Spring and slept on the couch. Brad G. was all about Montana and still lives there to this day. Recruiters were always coming into the school and talking to students, and I had always regretted not serving in the military. Just like that, the two of us enlisted in the infantry on a 6 month 'delayed entry' program so that we would be able to hunt in the fall before heading to basic training.
The recruiter signed us up as 'unassigned infantry.' I didn't know what infantry was, and he told us that because we were 'unassigned' we would be able to choose our jobs at basic training. There was no Google or web searches in those days. I knew virtually nothing about the military, so I trusted him. My drill sergeants had a huge laugh when I asked them when we would get to choose our jobs. One of them said, "Son, you done chose."
We cannot function in life without trusting other people. There is always a degree of risk associated with trusting others. Sometimes people deceive us. Sometimes they disappoint us. Sometimes people we trust wound us or let us down. Trust anyway! Let those times when your trust in others is shaken motivate you to BE trustworthy.
BE the kind of person who can ALWAYS be counted on. Many of the people Jesus encountered lied about him and accused him of things that weren't true. Some even pretended to be his friends. He did not become bitter or cynical. He's simply proved again and again that people could TRUST HIM! Be trustworthy, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
