Be Strong & Courageous

As I stood in formation at the end of Airborne School, the jumpmasters asked us if we wanted 'blood wings.' This is where they put your Airborne pin through your shirt with no back on the pin and then punch it into your chest. Obviously I said, "Yes," but those soldiers with a more delicate nature declined. Testosterone is a great thing.

It's part of what it means to be 'man' created in the image of God. It's why the boys in my elementary school played a tackling game day after day on our asphalt playground and why we loved 'King of the Hill' on our giant playground snowberms. Every boy knew what it was to cry, "Uncle" when one or more friends had you pinned down and was torturing you with some painful thing or another.

One of the big problems in American culture is that our legal and educational systems no longer let boys be boys. What do I recommend? Buy your boy a knife and a hatchet. Teach him how to split wood with an ax. Buy him some Carharts, work boots and a flannel shirt. Again and again in Scripture God told young men to BE STRONG and COURAGEOUS. Don't raise little boys, raise STRONG MEN and you (and they) will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
