You Will Overcome
With my thin, plastic rain gear shredded and gone, I continued to climb up above treeline in my white cotton jeans and T-shirt. As I gained elevation, the temperature dropped quickly and it was blowing hard and raining sideways. I began to shiver and my teeth were chattering even through the heavy exertion of the climb. These were warning signs. Hypothermia was setting in. Both strong and fit, physically I WAS PREPARED for the climb. As to mental toughness, I WAS PREPARED for the climb. But from the standpoint of knowledge and gear, I was utterly UNPREPARED.
At this point, the only thing that I had going for me was that I recognized the warning signs of hypothermia. I began to descend the mountain. I wasn't 'quitting.' I would climb another day. I simply saw the danger that I was in and had to make the tough decision to go back down. Life is filled with warning signs, but people often don't heed them. Every child in America understands the dangers of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs, yet those 'industries' are booming. God is very clear about the source of these battles. He says, "Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, seeking those whom he can devour."
America is filled with churches, and yet the overwhelming majority of people pass by dozens every week without even considering going inside. In fact, many of those openly hate Christians. Their lives are being devoured by the devil, but they refuse to see the warning signs. They are spiritually cold- in the first stages of hypothermia- yet they refuse to come off that lofty place and find safety in Christ. Friends, the Word of God tells us to "be careful how you live." You will often face trouble in this life, but if you heed God's warning signs, you WILL overcome. Be blessed! Pastor Brad
