The Right Direction

I've always had an excellent internal compass. I was helping my dad look for a big whitetail buck he'd shot with an arrow. He shot it right before dark and didn't have a flashlight. By the time he made it out to the road, drove to a phone, called us and we made it down with lights, a couple of hours had gone by. He was scouting out a new river bottom and had climbed a tree when he shot the deer, so he wasn't exactly sure where he had been.

He described where he'd gone as best he could before we left the road, and we made our way into the dark, swampy woods. Again and again, I told the guy out front, "We're walking in a circle." This only made him angry, and he repeatedly said, "You don't know what you're talking about." After about 20 minutes, we walked under a dead tree that I recognized. I shined my flashlight on it and said, "We walked under this tree 20 minutes ago." Two of the other guys also recognized the tree.

The guy out front said, "Fine! You lead." Less than 5 minutes later, we were standing at the tree where he'd shot the deer, and in another 5 minutes, we found his giant buck... all because of an 'internal compass.' This isn't a skill I developed. It's simply something that God gave me. In the same way, God has given every man, woman and child a MORAL COMPASS.

We KNOW that it is wrong to lie. We KNOW that it is wrong to take something that doesn't belong to us, WE KNOW that it is wrong to hurt another person. We even KNOW that it is wrong to refuse to share what we have. And somehow, though everyone dies, we KNOW that we were meant to LIVE. Why do we have this moral compass? It is because we are the image bearers of God.

But... if we are not careful... over time... we can lose the moral compass that spoke so loudly to us when we were just 5 and 6 years old. How? By believing the lies of the enemy. Friend, stay connected to the Word of God, to a genuine Bible teaching church, and to other believers. Respond immediately to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. These things will make you strong and keep you always moving in the right direction. Be blessed! -Pastor Brad
