Freedom Comes Through Obedience
As we continued to sidehill in the shale just beneath the clouds, the ridgeline above us got closer and closer as it 'ramped' lower and lower in elevation. While there was zero visibility in the clouds, there was perfect visibility just beneath them. We hated walking in this direction because the eight rams we were after had disappeared over the saddle behind us the day before.
We finally reached the descending ridgeline and were just beneath the layer of clouds. We cautiously peaked over the top, and to our great surprise our eight rams were standing 100 yards beneath us. Success in life often comes where we don't expect it. From a worldly perspective, God has many 'upside down' spiritual laws.
The one that small children, teens and adults find hardest to believe is that FREEDOM comes through OBEDIENCE. We expect to find success (freedom, happiness and fulfillment) through a mantra that says, "It's my life, I'll do what I please. No one is telling me what to do." But think about it- which child has the greatest freedoms? The one who ignores your instructions and does whatever he wants, or the one who is always obedient?
The same is true for adults. Prisons are filled with people who said, "No one is telling me what to do." Ironically, someone is telling them what to do 24 hours a day. Success- true freedom- comes where the world doesn't expect it, true, but it's exactly where God says that we'll find it. Simply find out what God wants you to do and then DO IT, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
