Lord Of All
As I hit the edge of yet another coulee I jumped a nice mule deer buck. It was a large mature buck, but looking back, the antlers were clearly average. He was doing that bounding 'bounce' peculiar to mule deer when he stopped broadside halfway up the coulee wall. In my excitement and inexperience, I shot him right there. If I had waited another minute, he would have climbed up out of that coulee on his own.
Instead, I was now faced with the difficult task of how to get him up out of there. I had no backpack, had never boned out an animal before, and wouldn't have been able to keep the meat clean and usable if I tried cutting it up on that silty gumbo anyway. Did you ever get something you really wanted and then discovered that you'd bitten off more than you wanted? Often in life what seems good 'in the moment' is not good at all.
The problem with acting on impulse is that so very often our impulses are dead wrong. The world, the flesh and the devil tell us, "If you want it, take it. If it feels good, do it. You only live once." But regarding all of those things that will truly give us joy and fulfillment, Jesus says, "Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you as well."
Don't seek pleasure first. Don't seek those things that you believe will make you happy first. Seek to live rightly as a child of God first, and he will add more blessing into your life than you even know how to receive. In your life if Jesus is not Lord OF all, he is not Lord AT all. Be blessed! -Pastor Brad
