Don't Give Up

In addition to my crushed foot, I also needed surgery to fuse three crushed vertebrae. So as not to leave me completely immobile and bedridden, they decided to do the spinal fusion after I got the cast off my foot. Every month I had to go in for a back x-ray to make certain that those damaged vertebrae weren't moving. The day finally came, my cast was removed. I was shocked by the length of the three incisions and all of the stitches, but even more so by the fact that my right foot was now at least double the thickness of my left foot. After nearly 4 months in a cast, I had expected it to look much better.

They wheeled me down for another back x-ray and then to my surgeon's office to schedule the spinal fusion. All of my x-rays to date had shown no additional movement or damage, but that day's x-ray was radically different. My surgeon came out holding that day's x-ray and the one from the previous month and said, "I don't know what to tell you. I've never seen anything like this."

In less than a month God had grown a bone from the upper crushed vertebrae down and attached it to the top of the severely crushed vertebrae in the middle. He had grown a second bone from the bottom of that severely crushed vertebrae down and attached it to the crushed vertebrae beneath it. The bones were perfectly lined up- a perfect fusion. I replied to my surgeon, "I have a lot of people praying for me." On the very day that I met my doctor to schedule the spinal fusion, we discovered that God had already done it!

This is why we pray for healing. This is why we don't give up praying. I'd had numerous x-rays since my accident and there was no healing, but people continued to pray. And God, who for his own good reasons was allowing me to suffer with my foot, chose to step down with a miracle to heal my back. Psalm 30:2 says, "Lord my God, I called to you for help and you healed me." Pray and don't give up, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
