Press Forward
I spent several days looking at my climbing boots and gathering up my nerve. My plan was to shove my foot (thick and swollen and full of stitches) into my climbing boot so that the rigid boot would force my foot to heal into the shape of the inside of the boot. That way I would be able to continue mountain climbing. I had my son, David, bring me my boots. He saw what I was thinking and said, "Don't do it, dad! Don't do it!" But I was committed. As I shoved my foot into the boot my body exploded in pain and I hollered, "Take it off! Take it off! Take it off!"
Once the pain subsided, I shoved it back in, and the process repeated itself again and again and again. Often in life, progress comes slowly-so slowly that at times we can't even see it. You may feel this way when you are trying to establish a better prayer life or to become more patient or reign in your temper. It may be that you have trouble trusting God with your finances or in your relationships. Maybe you haven't been disciplined in spending time in God's Word.
There are times when change happens in an instant, that's true. But more often we must wrestle- struggle- continue to press forward one small step at a time. Don't be discouraged. An athlete doesn't become stronger because he picks up a heavy weight, but he does become stronger if he lifts it again and again and again. Keep your eyes on your goal, press forward, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
