Worth Striving For
Many times each day I forced my swollen foot into my climbing boot. I timed how long I could stand the pain before pulling the boot off. Soon I could endure a minute and then two minutes and then five minutes. By the end of two weeks, I could leave my foot in the boot for an hour and was able to hobble around the house with both boots on. My goal was to climb Bear Mountain on New Year's Eve- exactly 21 days from the day my cast was removed. While I was in much less pain with the boots off, I forced myself to leave them on much of each day.
I could already see my plan working. My swollen foot was held together by 9 large screws, but my rigid boot was forcing the foot to 'heal down' into the shape of the inside of the boot. Many of life's great blessings come through consistency and perseverance. Learning, working, achieving goals- all require sacrifice and a commitment to press forward.
Hebrews 12 begins, "Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith." Everything truly worth having is worth striving for. Don't give up on your goals! Be blessed! -Pastor Brad
