Examine Your Life
I spent much of yesterday in the wilderness. Although the sun was not yet up at 10 AM, the temperature was a balmy 10°. The only problem is that there's so little snow that I have to ride an ATV. In fact the freezing rain last week settled the snow down to about 8 inches off the trail. What we need is at least 2 feet- 3 feet is better.
The moose population in my area is at a historic low. In over twelve miles through excellent habitat I only saw 2 tracks. What's the problem? Wolves. Unless someone deals with the predators the moose population will never, ever grow in the best habitat Alaska has to offer.
For the population to grow you can't just add good things, you need to eliminate the bad. The same is true for each one of us in our walk with the Lord. Adding good things is wonderful- reading your Bible, praying, going to church and small group- but if you still have lots of bad things in your life, you CANNOT grow. It's no different than expecting a moose to be healthy when two wolves have their teeth in it.
Evan Roberts, a deeply spiritual young man whom God used powerfully in the Welsh Revival told Christ followers that they needed to "get rid of every doubtful habit." BAD habits are easy to identify- they're obvious. But to be holy we need even to get rid of those things that are doubtful- things that may not be pleasing to God even though they aren't sinful. Examine your life. Add all of the good things you possibly can, but don't stop there. Put off those things the enemy is using to hold you back, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
