The Privilege Of Providing

As we draw near to Christmas, to "God with Us," to the miraculous birth of our Savior here on Earth, I find myself continuously amazed at the thought. Young Mary was very pregnant at this point. Young Joseph had taken her home to be his wife, and yet had honored his commitment to stay separate until after the baby was born. They've had nearly nine months to talk about what all of this means- how to parent the Son of God- how their life will change... how the WORLD will change... and yet the Lord led them to a simple life.

What might we have seen 10 years later? Joseph worked with his hands as a carpenter to provide for his growing family. Mary was busy with a house full of children. And Jesus? Everything about him was... well... PERFECT. Rather than sending his Son into the world in the family of a king- rather than having him grow up in a palace with servants and everything money could buy- God wanted Jesus to grow up in a home filled NOT with things, but with work and activity and younger siblings and LOVE.

A normal family (like most of ours) was God's choice for our King. But then, we also are royalty. We also are adopted children of The King. Do you work to put food on the table? Yes? Then you've been given the same great honor as the parents of our Lord. This Christmas season thank Jesus for the gift of work, for the gift of a home, and for the privilege of providing- and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
