Self-Discipline

As I was putting on my climbing gear, I saw on my phone that the temperature was 16°. I was wrong. I didn't notice that it was −16°. The moment that I stepped outside to put on my crampons I knew that it was cold. My years running a trapline in Alaska's interior have given me good internal temperature gauge. It was easily −20° at my house. Don't get me wrong- that's not a terrible temperature if you are dressed in your Arctic gear, but when I climb, I don't even wear a jacket.

It was cold enough that I almost quit before I even got started. As I considered this, the Lord brought a verse to my mind- "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful." One thing I've been lacking in my life surrounding food and exercise is DISCIPLINE. Though it generally takes more than 2 hours, I decided to climb anyway. I'd like to say that it got easier, but it was unpleasant the whole way. And yet... I felt REALLY GOOD when I finished.

How are you doing as it relates to SELF-discipline? Are you willing to do the hard things- to make the hard choices that you know will benefit you in the long run? Make a short list of changes that you know would be best for your life. Start implementing them today, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
