One Right Step Away

As I slowly made my way in along an unfamiliar trail, I experienced the joy of seeing new country for the first time. Again and again I took out my spotting scope and 'glassed' for sheep. Finally, about ten miles in, I spotted rams. They were so far above me that even with a spotting scope I couldn't tell if they were legal. I simply shouldered my pack and started to climb. The base of these mountains was comprised of scattered spruce with very thick alders and willows.

Once I broke through all of those I had a stretch of spongy tundra, which is kind of like climbing in sand or snow. By the time I was halfway up the mountain, I finally made it to firm footing. This was a total game-changer. Even though the mountain became more and more steep, I was able to climb more effectively- more efficiently. Firm footing didn't eliminate my challenge, it simply allowed me to meet it without wasting strength and energy.

The same thing is true in our spiritual lives. When we are standing on firm footing (and the ONLY firm footing is faith in Jesus Christ) we are able to give our full attention to things that matter. The distractions, pitfalls, and shaky ground that used to take so much time and energy simply slip away. How about you? Are you standing on firm footing? If not, it is only ONE RIGHT STEP away! Don't wait! Don't hesitate! Take the next right step, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
