Share Life With Others
I discovered early on that having climbing 'partners' made all the difference. Over the years about half dozen different men have stepped into that role. When Jon Boone invited me to climb Mount Rainier with he and his daughter, we began intensive training. This culminated with an overnight in very cold temperatures where we dragged sleds full of gear 7 miles in to the base of a coastal mountain.
Because of the exertion, the cold temperatures actually made life more comfortable on the way in. Jon is perhaps the most experienced mountaineer in our church, having summitted numerous mountains including Denali. He encouraged me not to skimp on gear, but to experience the full weight of an expedition pack. His daughter Caroline is also an avid climber.
This was a new challenge for me, but it was definitely made easier because I wasn't going through it alone. Friends, we are designed to need each other. We were created to share life. God himself said, "It is not good for man to be alone." Initiate and invest in friendships. Share life with others, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
