Fast

In Matthew 6:16-18 Jesus said, "When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

If fasting is to receive the attention of God, it must not be done for the attention of others. As much as it is possible, it is only done 'in secret.' In American culture, it is so easy to allow food to become an idol. The average person eats far better than the kings of old. Our food is fast, plentiful, good, and by historical standards- incredibly inexpensive. As you fast, choose one unsaved person to pray for, and one significant need (it might be guidance for an important decision, physical healing, mending a relationship, etc.).

Give the time normally devoted to preparing and eating meals completely to prayer. Each time during the day that you feel hunger pangs, offer up quick prayers for these same things. And don't miss this- pray EXPECTING GOD TO ANSWER! FAST, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
