Being Still With God
I laid in my tent waiting for daylight. As soon as I could see I climbed to the summit and began walking the ridgeline glassing for bear. My partner, Tim Hand, simply set up his spotting scope next to the tents and sat down to wait. I have never been good at sitting still. I walked a mile or so and then came back to the tent. I hadn't seen a thing. Tim, however, had spotted a bear at the bottom of the mountain and was waiting for me so we could go after him.
Covering all that distance I came up empty. Sitting still, Tim found what we were looking for. There is a great spiritual lesson here. Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God." So often in life the key to hearing God's voice- the key to discovering our next right step- is to be still. Then, after hearing from God, we have the faith to move forward with confidence. The bear was in a small clearing in the timber and we didn't know if we would be able to find him.
Even so, we grabbed our rifles, made a plan and headed down the mountain as fast as we were able to go. Why? Because by being still Tim had found what we were looking for. All of my busy-ness and activity was fruitless. How about you? Have you learned the secret value of stillness? Practice being still with God today, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
