The Very Best You

I had the privilege of coaching in Alaska for more than 30 years. What is the purpose of competition? Most of the world gives a 2 word answer: TO WIN. I disagree. I never pushed my athletes to win... but I DID push them, and I pushed them HARD. I wanted each athlete to become the very best that he or she could be. I wanted individuals to learn to work together as a team. I wanted them to love and support and encourage each other. I wanted them to honor and respect their opponents.

And to hundreds of athletes over the years I spoke these words: "All that I expect from you is that you will give 100% of what you have to give- 100% of the time." To find my identity in 'winning' is to find my identity by comparing myself with other people. Competition is not about ME being better than YOU, it's about me being the very best that I can be.

God has created each one of us as a completely unique individual. There is literally no comparison between ourselves and anyone else. We're different. It pleased God to make us that way. So? Stop trying to find your value by comparing yourself with other people. Be the very best YOU that you can be- the you God has created you to be- and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
