What Truly Matters
It's May 11th and I have a fresh blanket of snow the ground. About a month ago I got serious about climbing again. It's unpleasant. In fact, I'm always a little bit nauseous until my body adjusts to the exertion. Many of the things that are good for us in the long haul are difficult in the moment. Maintaining sexual purity until marriage, sticking with your marriage even when things get tough, laboring through school or training to earn a better living- all of these can be very hard at the time.
In our spiritual lives one of the HARDEST things with the BIGGEST payoff is to set aside time for personal Bible study and prayer. Is finding the time a problem? It's painful to hear, but the solution is probably to get up earlier. For me this means getting up at 4:00 a.m.. But here's the thing- I never ever ever ever regret starting my morning this way. My day is BETTER because I begin the right way.
Colossians 3:2 says, "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." As you open the Word of God and pray you set your mind and your heart in the right place. You become centered on what truly matters. This impacts your decisions and relationships all day long. Be blessed! -Pastor Brad
