Truly Know People
Late May and the pond at my cabin is still completely frozen. As with all of our lakes, if a person drew his or her idea of what a 'lake' was in midwinter, he would think that a lake is simply a large, barren sheet of ice. If all truth was found on the surface of the way things appear, he would be right. But a lake is NOT a barren sheet of ice. To understand a lake you need to go deeper. Under the surface it is teeming with life.
God says that the same thing is true of people. On the surface people look one way, but when you go deeper you find so much more. Some look good on the surface, but underneath are desperately evil. Some look rough on the surface, but underneath are absolutely beautiful. Most are somewhere in between. It's important that we not make quick judgments based upon the way that things appear. We need to go deeper.
1 Samuel 16:7 says, "For the Lord does not look at things the way man does. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." In John 7:24 Jesus said, "Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly." Dig deeper. Look beneath the surface of things. Spend the time and energy to truly KNOW people, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
