Give Thanks To God

My wife, Laura, loves to be out on the water IF the water is calm and IF it is warm outside and IF the sun is shining. She also loves fishing IF she is catching fish. She does not, however, have any interest in spending her day being cold and wet and miserable. In fact she once told me that her idea of a perfect hunt would be to cuddle up with a blanket in a motorhome reading a book and wait for something to come by. The older I get (and the more weather beatings I've taken) the more that I'm starting to think like her.

You see, when we were young and broke and raising a large family, I felt a great deal of pressure to provide meat for the freezer. I still feel it, but not nearly to the same extent. I spend a lot of time alone in the mountains, but nowadays I seldom even leave home if the weather is bad. Feeling a degree of pressure to provide is actually a good thing for men. You see, God has commanded us to provide for our families.

In fact, God tells us in 1 Timothy 5:8, "A man who does not provide for his relatives, especially for his immediate family, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." It is a beautiful and sacred privilege for a man to step into the role of provider. Give thanks to God for his provision, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
