Volunteer, Serve, Give
We all have different gifts. My friend Lynn Pryor understands all things mechanical. He can weld, bend, fabricate, and overhaul. That's not me. Like all men who are willing to admit it- I wish I could do those things. I have a friend who hunted with a giant track rig called a 'Thiokal' for decades. Every year he shot his moose, and every year he drove right up to it. I, on the other hand, typically have to carry meat on my back- sometimes for miles. Many years ago he told me that I needed to hunt with one of those machines. I said, "Leonard, a breakdown that's a 20 minute inconvenience for you is a 20 mile walk for me." I can't hunt with that machine because I can't fix it.
We all have different gifts. We all have different talents. The same thing is true spiritually. Every Christian, at the moment of salvation, receives a special gift from the Holy Spirit. Preaching, teaching and evangelism are a few. Others include mercy, encouragement, giving, serving and administration.
You can read about these and others in 1 Corinthians 12 and 14, and Ephesians 5. You can find a Spiritual Gifts Inventory online if you want help identifying your gifting. The critical the point is this: A local church is never completely healthy until every single person is doing his or her part. VOLUNTEER, SERVE, GIVE, GO- in Jesus' name, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
