God At The Head

There is a movement, though very small, of people becoming what they call 'minimalist.' Small homes, a few possessions, only a few changes of clothes... something about this kind of life appeals to me. At the same time, a part of me would love to have the right piece of heavy equipment, a boat that goes out on the ocean, a Supercub, and a giant track rig for hunting moose. I've said many times that I could live in a 400 square foot apartment if I had a 10 car garage. So- will I buy any of those things I'd like to have? Probably not. Why? They don't fit my life.

If I lived in Seward, I might have a boat. If I lived rural on a landing strip, I might have a Supercub. If I was a mechanic with a BIG pickup and trailer, I might have heavy equipment and a track rig. For my life as it is now, any of those things would simply be adding work and headaches to my life. Life is all about choices, isn't it? Instead of all of those things, Laura and I have chosen to invest in Christian school tuition for our kids, building a church and supporting missions around the world. From our perspective, it was an easy choice.

Of course, many people have those things (and more) and still are heavily invested in taking the gospel to the world. The beautiful thing that we've discovered is that as we've kept God first, he has always blessed us beyond measure. No, you don't need to be a minimalist, and no, life should not be about the accumulation of possessions. Just keep God at the head of the list, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
Yes, I have more than enough 'stuff.'
