I Am With You Always
And just like that, we were upside down. If you've ever been trapped under a raft in Class V whitewater and lived to tell the story, you are fortunate indeed. In a matter of seconds I had swallowed mouthfuls of water as I plunged my arm out and up- trying to find the outside rope on the raft tube. Trying to rescue yourself while being flushed through a gorge underwater at a frantic speed is an interesting experience. I would imagine it would be like trying to tie your shoes while you are riding a bull in a rodeo.
Everything was moving in opposite directions all at once. And yet somehow, in the middle of that explosion of activity, my thinking was calm and methodical. I never panicked. I knew what I had to do. I kept reaching until I found the rope and pulled myself out from under the raft. With my head finally above water, my first breath brought immediate relief. How do you respond to life's sudden and unexpected challenges? Do you panic and shut down, or do you immediately begin to work and think your way through?
The first response is rooted in FEAR. The second response is rooted in FAITH. When life hits you hard- after the initial shock- take a deep breath, trust in God, and begin working your way through. Remember, you are not doing it on your own. Jesus said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you," and, "I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Be blessed! Pastor Brad
