Lead Well
There was a time in my life when I was pretty much the worst hunting guide ever. The Alaskan wilderness was all new to me. My rain jacket and pants came in plastic envelopes and cost .99 cents each. It can be no surprise, then, that when I took Laura into the wilderness to go moose hunting, I didn't buy her boots. In fact, she didn't have any hunting clothing at all. I had not yet learned the critical importance of having the right gear. My hunting partner Dan, Laura and I rode 'triple' on a Suzuki 250 ATV for fifteen miles on a wilderness trail.
Then we got off to climb a mountain. It's true that we hadn't intended to climb a mountain, but we saw Dall sheep up there. I had Dan snap a picture of us halfway up. Laura's jeans and flat-soled tennis shoes made her first wilderness climb (no trail) a huge challenge. Worse, I didn't bring any food or water. Like I said- worst guide ever. It took some time for me to learn to lead well. It is a big responsibility to make certain that those who follow you are prepared for the journey.
This is why we opened the Bible and prayed every night with our kids. It's why going to youth group wasn't 'optional.' It's why we sent them to a Christian school and on mission trips all over the world. As their leaders, Laura and I were doing all that we could to prepare them for life's journey. An Ambassador is most definitely a leader. YOU are Christ's Ambassador. Lead well, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
