Truly Follow
'Tuck-A-Duck-Away' (Tuck) was an exceptional bird dog. He loved the water, was utterly immune to cold, and often hunted at temperatures of −30°. After hours of working the willow brush for birds, plunging through deep snow, the only evidence that he was a normal dog was that even he could get tired. When we were between willow patches and traveling rather than hunting, I would break trail for him. Even then the walking was hard behind my snowshoes, so he would often sneak up and try to walk on top of my snowshoes as I was stepping forward.
Of course, it was impossible for me to step forward with a large dog standing on my snowshoe. The only solution was for me to command him to "sit" and "stay"- walk 50 yards- and then say, "Come!" This would be repeated as long as needed. Walking with large, Alaskan snowshoes is incredibly hard work... but nothing compared to the work of walking without them. Following Christ requires hard work.
We sacrifice time, money, labor, plans... and on the surface it seems like all of this can make life difficult. Following Christ will COST you, it's true, but it's NOTHING compared to the COST of NOT FOLLOWING HIM. The hard work of following Christ leads to contentment, peace and joy. The hard work of NOT following him leads to frustration, selfishness and eternal regret. Truly follow, and you will be blessed! - Pastor Brad
