Be In A True Church
It was a short pack in, a little over an hour. We were carrying packrafts to float a short stretch of the Eagle River. Though it was May, we were still walking on patches of snow and ice. When we reached our launch point, we inflated our rafts and slid off an ice shelf into the river. And just like that- in a moment in time- everything got peaceful. The sound of flowing water is soothing. Something about being on the water is good for my soul.
Though we know little of Jesus's early life, we know that he spent a good deal of time on the Sea of Galilee. He chose a number of fishermen to be his disciples. With calloused hands and sinewy arms end weather-beaten faces, these were men of courage. These were not the kind of men their culture expected to see in Bible school or seminary. They were regular people like you and me- no pretense- no air of superiority- no religious hypocrisy- just people. Aren't you glad that God's plan has always been to use EVERYONE for his glory?
We all have equal status before the Lord and equal opportunity to follow him. Each one of us is given a sphere of influence that begins in our home and then moves outward. Who leads your church? Do you see a hard-working person just like you? Do you have a man who opens the Bible and communicates God's truth in a way that inspires and changes you? Or do you have what Jesus condemned among the religious leaders of his day- formality and flowing robes and repetitious prayer? Friend, the time is short. You need to be in a true church- a living, breathing, Bible teaching church that you look forward to. If you are stuck in an uninspiring church that does not impact your life or the lives of your teenagers, try somewhere new- less religious- more genuine and passionate. Do this, and you will be blessed!
