Continuously Give Thanks
First I heard a twig snap- then another. I was straining my eyes and ears- listening for sound- looking for movement. And just like that, there was my bear... at 11 PM... after 4 hours in a tree... The key to caring for all wild game is to keep the meat clean and then get it cold. This is especially true of a bear because their thick hide is like a thermal blanket and will quickly sour the meat.
I gutted the bear and managed to muscle it up into my meat wagon. 30 minutes later, I was back at my cabin waking Laura up to come out and help me skin and cut up the bear. Buy 2:30 AM we had the meat packed in ice and went to bed. By noon the next day the meat was neatly wrapped in packages in the freezer. Laura and I repeated this many times over the years. This was our spring meat supply.
The ability to 'live off the land' is a privilege and a blessing. We give thanks when we are successful, and we give thanks when we are not. We carry this promise: God will not suffer his children to beg for their bread. Jehovah-Jireh, God is my Provider. Give thanks- continuously give thanks for all He provides, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
