He Will Do It
Life was in some respects more of an adventure before we could 'Google.' I rode a Greyhound bus for two days to get to my first teaching job interview. I stepped off the bus on a hot summer day, wearing a corduroy sport coat and carrying a suitcase (yes, in those days they did not have wheels). It was my first time in Montana, and the only thing I knew about this little town was that they needed an elementary school teacher.
As the bus drove away I stood there in the middle of a gravel road feeling just about as alone as i'd ever felt. New state, new town, heavy suitcase, no phone, and now no transportation- and I had no idea how to find the school. I believe that 'stepping into the unknown' can be a powerful, growing experience. It takes us out of our comfort zones, often requires that we seek assistance, and forces us to meet new people.
Ultimately, navigating new territory can be a real confidence builder. Believe it or not, God intends for our lives to include this kind of adventure. When Jesus sent out 72 of his followers (in pairs) to begin proclaiming the gospel, he told them not to take any money or to have any set arrangements about what they would eat or where they would stay.
Friends, when we live our lives 'anchored' in the familiar, we lose out on so much of what God has for us! Perhaps God wants to use you on a short-term mission trip. Perhaps he wants you to witness door-to-door in your neighborhood. Ask the Holy Spirit to put a new adventure in your life. Then get ready, because HE WILL DO IT! Be blessed! -Pastor Brad
