A Beautiful Day

I stood for a moment on the gravel street, suitcase in hand, wondering which way to go. The 'bus stop' was the Farmers' Co-op gas station. I asked the employee- Ralph- the only person I had seen, how to find the school. He pointed to a green, metal 'pole barn' looking building at the end of the street. It turns out that the gravel road I was standing on was Main Street in Moore, Montana.

There were only a few ancient buildings standing. I could see a bar, a tiny grocery store, a meat locker, the gas station, a horse watering trough and a very small Post Office as I began lugging my suitcase towards the school. I had grown up in a small town of about 2,000 people, but this was a town of 200. My definition of 'small' changed dramatically that day.

A friend sent me a Scripture this week that spoke powerfully to him. Zechariah 4:10 says, "Do not despise the day of small things, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin." This was a day of small things for me. As a young, single man I could not imagine how I would make friends or what I would do in such a place. With the internet years away, I had no idea until this moment of the tiny size of the community I was standing in. I had no idea how small the school was. I had simply seen an add in my college placement office for a teacher.

Friends, don't despise the day of small things. Your dreams may seem far away, but the ingredients for a beautiful life are in today's small things. Love, laughter, purpose, opportunity- you are standing 'knee-deep' in a world of possibilities. Be the best YOU that you can possibly be TODAY- in the middle of your circumstances- and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
