Consider The Cost

My 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (the engine was called the "350 Rocket") got 14 miles per gallon. I let someone talk me into selling it and buying a 4 cylinder Plymouth Horizon, one of the greatest automotive embarrassments in history. BIG mistake! The engine didn't 'purr,' it sounded more like you were shaking marbles in a coffee can. I couldn't even drive the speed limit up a steep hill, and the car broke down- left me literally coasting- into Lewistown, Montana.

I didn't think things through. This car got more than twice the gas mileage of my old car, so I thought it would save me lots of money. My old car was paid off, this one had payments. Because I had payments the bank required full coverage insurance, so my cost of insurance went up. That was a painful lesson I've never forgotten. My vehicle expenses went WAY UP that year.

God tells us that a wise person 'considers the cost' before starting to build a house. I had only considered the cost of gasoline- a small part of the cost of owning a car. But considering the cost applies to far more than things we purchase. We must consider the cost of the decisions we make. Unwise decisions often cost us dearly, as do the decisions to NOT DO things God would have us do.

What decisions are you facing? Before moving forward, pray- genuinely pray. Spend time praying and listening, asking God for direction. Next, seek wise counsel. Find a godly man or woman and have a conversation about how to move forward. And remember- all GOOD counsel is GOD counsel. NEVER follow advice that is contrary to God's clear teaching. Consider the cost of each decision you face, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
