Be The Church
After the disaster with my plastic rain gear, I agreed with Laura to begin purchasing quality gear. We were on a tight budget, so one year was rain gear, the next year was a tent and the third year was a sleeping bag. My first 'geared up' trip out, the weather was beautiful and sunny. I exited my warm sleeping bag and waterproof tent, stretched my legs, packed light, and began my climb. Since this was a 'day climb' and I knew that I would be returning to my tent, all that I brought with me was my rifle, ammo, knife and binoculars.
I saw snow up high so I knew that I would have fresh water and I figured I could snack on blueberries at lower elevations. The climb was fantastic with the warm sun taking the 'chill' off the morning air. I was up in the grey rock stalking a small band of rams. Almost without my noticing, a cold wind began to blow and the skies turned grey. I knocked down a nice ram, but by the time I had him boned out and in my pack an icy rain begin to fall. No problem. I had excellent rain gear... in my tent.
There wasn't a cloud in the sky early that morning, so I didn't bring my rain gear. I had the right equipment, but I still had lessons to learn. The weather in Alaska's mountains can change in an instant. What good is being properly equipped if you don't use what you have? Many Christians are like this. They spend years being 'discipled' but never share their faith, never invite others to church, never volunteer to teach a Sunday school class or serve in ministry. Friend, YOU are equipped. Use what God has given you. Don't simply GO to church- BE the church- and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
