Every Purpose Under Heaven

I don't know where the saying comes from, but we've all had times in life when we've had to 'hit the ground running.' Whether it's a crisis or simply unexpected work, some of life's interruptions are both urgent AND important. But everything urgent crossing your path is not necessarily important. It's not high on your priority list. Often these come from other people who are having their own personal crisis and want you to solve it.

When these 'unwanted opportunities' cross your path, be prayerful. Certainly, we want to help when we can, but not at the cost of higher priorities- not at the cost of family time- not at the cost of a commitment you've made to another person- not at the cost of your health. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, "To everything, there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven." How should you respond to that crisis that falls beneath higher priorities?

Look at your schedule and tell that person, "I can help you Tuesday afternoon if that works," or, "I'm booked this week but I could spend Saturday afternoon with you. Would that work?" Don't allow your life to be ruled by the 'urgent' and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
