Do Your Part
In the old days, rafts were not self-bailing. An essential piece of gear for whitewater was 'scoops' (generally, coffee cans, buckets or a milk jug with the bottom cut out). A group of friends invited me to 'paddle raft' Lion's Head- a stretch of serious rapids on the upper Matanuska River. My job was 'bailer.' That seemed like a waste of time to me. I thought perhaps I should have an oar and simply use the bucket when needed.
The guys just kind of smiled and agreed that we would all paddle and ail bail. When the first big wave broke over, the top of the raft, half filling us with water and threatening to sink us, I realized the importance of bailing. Most often the jobs in life that seem less important are actually critical for success.
Without childcare workers our weekday Bible studies would flounder. Without maintenance workers our large facility would soon be in disrepair. Without sound and tech workers our services would suffer and our social media and radio outreach would disappear. You get the picture.
It is important that everyone understand that within the church there are no small jobs, no unimportant jobs. You may not be steering the raft, but without rowers and bailers we'll sink in a hurry! Step up and do your part, and both you and everyone else will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
