Remember This Truth
My sheep hunting partner, Dan, is a lot tougher than I am. I tend to try to sit out the rain, waiting for it to clear. He gets up and goes. Of course, I follow- because as a man, I must. I can't stand the thought of someone enduring hardship that I'm not willing to endure. It was day two. We'd carried a 'spike camp' off in the direction where we'd seen rams run and disappear the day before. The giant ram with the broken horn had somehow disappeared.
We lay inside the tiny tent listening to the rain patter against the ceiling. All at once Dan said, "I'm going." I groaned inwardly as I laced my boots, thinking about crawling into a tiny tent soaking wet at the end of the day. Strangely enough, about 10 minutes into our walk, I started to feel better. My body became accustomed to the weight of the pack and my mind accepted the fact that it was going to be a wet day.
Some of life's necessary tasks are unpleasant. They will always be unpleasant. For some, it's meeting new people. For others, it's taking a new job. Still more struggle with public speaking. But here's the deal- when it's NECESSARY, we ought to commit ourselves to doing it as well as we possibly can. The trick is to shift our thinking- to view those tasks as a challenge to be overcome- as a victory to be won.
Many Christians find it unpleasant to try to share their faith with family members or close friends. They fear that others will accuse them of being judgemental. It may help you to think of it this way: what you are offering is worth far more than a billion dollars. If you were handing out large sums of money to those you love, you would be excited about giving the gift. What you are offering is far more valuable.
Train yourself to remember this truth, and witnessing will become far less intimidating to you. Someone cared enough to share Christ with you or to invite you to church. BE that person, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
