Work That Really Matters

This is a picture of the Danesville store. It is also a picture of the city of Danesville- just one tiny store out in the middle of farm country. When I was a boy, my grandfather Wilford Burgess 'dehorned' cattle for all of surrounding farmers. This was rough work. My brother John and I loaded the cattle one at a time into a heavy chute, locked their heads in place, and my grandfather sawed off the horns with a hacksaw.

Our reward at the end of the day was a bottle of ice cold cream soda at the Danesville store. The greater reward was, young as we were, being treated like men and spending the day with our grandpa doing work that really mattered.

Our culture has long forgotten that we are not raising boys and girls, we are raising men and women. Do all that you can to give real work for your children. Give your boys a wood pile and an axe, a lawn and a mower, or some other work that really matters. and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
