Triumph In The Lord
One of the best ways to guarantee terrible weather in Alaska is to plan a Dall Sheep hunt. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. In over three decades of stomping around in Alaska's high country, I can only remember a handful of beautiful, sunny days. I'm not saying that we only HAD a few, I'm just saying that those aren't the days that left a strong impression on my memory. Days on end of cold, drizzling rain I remember. Snow I remember.
Most of my lasting memories involve various degrees of suffering. Only sheep hunters understand what it is to be sweating profusely and hypothermic at the same time. But... I keep going back. In fact, I think about it all year long. I can't really explain why. There is just something about being in the high country that stirs my soul.
It reminds me of one of my favorite passages of Scripture- Habakkuk 3:17-19 says, "Though the fig tree does not bud and there is no fruit on the vine, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pens and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will triumph in the Lord! I will rejoice in the God of my salvation! Yahweh, my Lord, is my strength! He makes my feet like those of a deer, and enables me to walk on mountain heights." Be blessed! -Pastor Brad
