'Fisher Of Men'

When Jesus said to a small group of commercial fishermen, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers (literally 'catchers') of men"- what did he mean? While there is certainly a degree of value to fishing- to being out on the water with the wind in your face or standing knee deep in a river casting- fishing would be pointless without the 'catching.' Every good fisherman knows that there are things we can do to increase our chances of 'catching,' but one thing is sure- you will never 'catch' if you don't fish.

The allusion to fishing intrigued James and John and Peter and Andrew, and they decided to follow Jesus. But the comparison to fishing could only go so far. Rather than casting their nets, these fishermen begin casting THE TRUTH. What they offered their family and friends and neighbors and strangers on the street was LIFE. It's true that they never knew how a person would respond to the good news.

It's true that many people rejected them. But as they persisted, MANY came to Christ! Share your faith. Invite others to church. Tell people what Jesus has done for you. Become a 'fisher of men,' and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
