Work Together

I stood watching as the bull we could have had 100 yards from camp crossed a shallow river and disappeared into a willow patch over a mile from camp. My partner had missed two easy shots and had left all of his ammunition back at camp. I sat holding his empty rifle and watching the spot where the moose disappeared, while he carried his bow and arrows back to camp to get my rifle and his ammo. When he returned over an hour later, I hadn't seen the moose come out of the willows. I described to my partner the exact spot I had seen it disappear and told him that I would cross the river and head into the brush with my rifle, and that he should stand on the ridgeline to motion me into the right spot. I figured the moose had probably bedded down because my partner had shot him in the 'foot.'

Fortunately for us, the moose hadn't moved and I was able to take him right there in the willows. We boned out the meat and were able to stack everything in two extra large arctic military 'alice packs.' The problem was that neither of us could lift our pack off the ground. We each grabbed a shoulder strap of a single pack and the two of us carried it and set it on a four foot high riverbank. Then, we did the same thing with the second pack. By standing in the river, we were able to put our arms through the shoulder straps and get the heavy loads onto our backs. Having two men (rather than just one) made everything easier and faster.

I have many times taken a moose when hunting by myself. God doesn't need to convince me of the truth of his Word when he says in Ecclesiastes 4:9, "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work." Even though this day was turning out to be far harder than it needed to be, I was thankful to be sharing the work with another man. What is the key to not feeling self-conscious when asking others for help? Simply this- spend your life OFFERING to help others when THEY are in the middle of projects. When you need assistance, you will have a group of friends eager to lend a hand. Work hard- work TOGETHER, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
