Go Tell & Invite
Yesterday (for the first time in my life) I watched a professional bass fishing tournament on television. I had no idea that there was such a thing as 'Major League Fishing.' These men had the right EQUIPMENT, had a lot of TRAINING and EXPERIENCE, and were entirely FOCUSED on catching fish.
I imagine that's what a few of the disciples were like when they first met Jesus. They also were fishermen- equipped, trained, experienced, focused. But Jesus had a more important job for them. In the same way, no matter what we do to earn our living, Jesus has a more important job for us.
He said, "Come! Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." His literal language was that they would "catch" or "take men alive."Those fishermen didn't have the knowledge that we have. They didn't have the Word of God at their fingertips, and they didn't have the Holy Spirit in them- yet the Bible says, "At once they left their nets and followed him."
The point of this was not a 'career change,' it was a change of FOCUS. From that day forward, life at its center became about something very different from catching fish. It became about sharing the GOSPEL of Jesus Christ and the LOVE of Jesus Christ with those who had not yet received him as their personal Savior.
This is to be our life focus as well. As we share the good news and the love of Christ, many WILL receive him. When you GO out your door today, TELL people what Jesus has done for you and INVITE them to receive his forgiveness, to receive eternal life, and to come with you to church. "Fish" for men, women, and children, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
