Do This
Just a year older, my brother John was the 'Daniel Boone' in the family. Knife throwing, axe throwing, slingshot, BB gun and arrow shooting, raft building, crayfish spearing, gopher trapping and fishing were all on his resume before junior high. As his trusty sidekick, they were on my resume too. About junior high age, we decided that we were going to earn money trapping fur. We had no idea what we were doing and caught more skunk and possum than anything else. We rarely caught something we could sell.
That all changed when we were in high school and John decided that we were going to drive to northern Minnesota to the State Trappers' Convention with our friend, Doug Budensiek. Two things happened that day. First, I won a drawing that included traps and equipment and lures- everything needed for a Minnesota trapper. But that would have been meaningless if it wasn't for the OTHER thing that happened.
Experienced trappers- 'masters'- mostly old men- took us under their wing and taught us everything we needed to know. We had been doing almost everything wrong. Learning from the masters changed everything. Stumbling along on our own for several years, we made very little progress. After those men TOLD us and SHOWED us all that we needed to do, we became successful trappers.
As Christians, we also need to learn from the Master (Christ) and from other experienced teachers. Get into a Bible study or small group. Read and think about. God's Word daily. Find a more experienced Christian to serve alongside in some ministry at your church. If you do these things, your spiritual progress will 'ramp up' immediately. Do this, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
