Equip Yourself
It seems a lifetime ago that my good friend, Dan Marshall and I spent the night on the snowy ground to fish Montana's Ruby River. Growing up in mountain country, Dan well understood the importance of good gear. After building a roaring fire, Dan laid a quality sleeping pad down on the snow, crawled into a heavy down sleeping bag and went to sleep. Growing up in Minnesota, even though I had been hunting and fishing and trapping since I was a boy, none of those things involved sleeping overnight.
I had NO good gear. I cut sage brush and laid it on top of the snow and crawled into my $19 JC Penny sleeping bag. Though I was wearing insulated coveralls I was so painfully cold that I had to spend the second half of the night in the cab of my pickup, turning on the heat every 30 minutes or so. It's true that you can survive many things without being properly equipped, but wisdom asks, "Why would you?" We will face many difficulties and challenges in this life.
God has given a detailed instruction manual to equip us to meet every need. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." Spend time in the Word of God. Equip yourself, and you will be blessed! -Pastor Brad
