Walk His Way
Every winter hundreds of Alaskans excitedly buy their first snowshoes. Then, they go up into the mountains, spend five minutes plunging through the snow to their crotch and trying to pull their snowshoe up out of the hole, go back to their cars and never go again. Why? Because those cute little and midsize snowshoes need dense snow- the kind you get in states with warm daytime temperatures- the kind of snow that's good for making snowmen. In Alaska those snowshoes have very limited value. What is needed to stay on top is the long, traditional snowshoes.
I've spent hundreds of days hunting or running my trapline on those long snowshoes- many times at temperatures of −30° or colder. At first, they are a bit cumbersome and tricky. To stay out of trouble you must learn to WALK in a NEW WAY. The same thing is true of following Christ. When I became a Christian, I had to learn to WALK in a NEW WAY. It wasn't easy. When I walked away from the party life, I had some good friends who walked away from me.
They were not interested in a friend who didn't do all of the things we had done together for years, and even less interested in a friend who invited them to church and Bible study and shared what Jesus had done in his life. But I knew that I had to walk in a new way. With God's help i'm still learning. Have you learned to walk in a new way? Can people see a difference in your life? They should.
