I was crew-handing on a salmon drift boat in Bristol Bay. Because of a lack of fish making it up the river to spawn, we were shut down. As a crewhand my entire pay was a percentage of our total harvest. I actually earned less money that summer than it cost me to buy gear and fly to Bristol Bay.
You see, if you're aren't fishing, you can't catch fish. If you don't catch fish, there's no reward. Jesus said to some commercial fishermen, "Come! Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." That same command applies to you and to me. And here's the deal- if we don't fish we will not lead anyone to Christ. Our 'season' on this earth will be pointless, fruitless, wasted. It is impossible to TRULY LOVE a person whose sins have condemned them to hell without pointing them to a Savior. Anything short of that is cruel- it's a mockery.
