Reaching People With The Gospel

My dad has always loved to fish, so after picking him up at the airport, we stopped to get him a license and then, drove hundreds of miles with a raft and gear to get to a river. I had two friends meet us there with their own raft. The road did not go next to the river, so we had to portage rafts and gear trip after trip to get to the riverbank. By the time we pushed off into the water, it was 11 PM. It was late June in Alaska's interior- in other words, it was still light out. All of that TIME, all of that WORK, all of that MONEY, and why? In the hopes of catching a fish.

When Jesus called commercial fishermen to follow him, he said, "Come! Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." A literal translation is, "You will take men alive." As a follower of Christ, if I am going to spend time and money to pursue my own interests, you can bet I'm going to spend A LOT MORE time and money 'fishing' for people who desperately need the love and forgiveness of Christ.

In fact, years ago I determined that I would not make recreational purchases (boat, ATV, snowmachine etc.) unless I donated the same amount of money, ABOVE my regular giving, to reaching people with the gospel. So go ahead,l- fish for fish! Let that be a blessing in your life. Just make sure that your heart and time and energy and resources are poured into reaching people with the gospel! Be blessed! -Pastor Brad
